Conflict of Interest Statutes

  • G.S. 14-234 has been revised effective July 2, 2002. This page will be updated as soon as the General Assembly web page updates this statute.   • G.S. 14-237 Buying school supplies from an interested officer. If any county board of education or school committee shall buy school supplies in which any member has a pecuniary interest, the members of such board shall be removed from their positions in the public service and shall, upon conviction, be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor.

Conflict of Interest Board Policy

 Any public officer or employee of the Craven County Board of Education involved in making or administering a contract on behalf of said system shall not derive a direct benefit from the contract except as otherwise provided in the law G. S. 14-234(a).

  1. Any public officer or employee who will derive a direct benefit from a contract but is not involved in making or administering it shall not attempt to influence any other person who is involved in making or administering the contract. 
  2. Any public officer or employee shall not solicit or receive any gift, reward, or promise of reward in exchange for recommending, influencing, or attempting to influence the award of a contract by the public agency he or she serves.
